Make a Happiness Music Playlist
Thus far at Primrose Ponderings I’ve not explicitly mentioned music’s potential in helping us along our happiness journey, but I suspect that it won’t take much coaxing to convince most of you that music has enormous potential to increase our happiness. The key lies in finding music that brings you joy.
What is your goto music when you need a pick-me-up? What genre do you gravitate toward when you want to smile? Who are your favorite performers whose music brings joy to you?
A few years ago, I made a Happiness Playlist for my birthday because I wanted to hear only songs that brought me joy. While some of them were big pop hits (like the quite literal “Happy” by Pharrell Williams), others are known only in certain circles (like “I’d Rather Be Happy Than Right” by Michael Franks).
The only factor I used to create my list is that the songs make me smile and bring me joy. Many of them make me want to dance. :)
Want to listen to the songs I chose? Check out my playlist on YouTube.
There are many, many more songs that I could have added1 but this list is representative of the types of songs that brought me joy in May 2021 when I created it:
”Taking a Chance on Love” - Jane Monheit
“When I Give My Love to You” - Michael Franks and Brenda Russell
“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” - Michael McDonald
“Takin’ It To the Streets” - The Doobie Brothers
“What a Fool Believes” - The Doobie Brothers
“Never Give Up on a Good Thing” - George Benson
“Biggest Part of Me” - Ambrosia
“I’d Rather Be Happy Than Right” - Michael Franks
“Like Sunshine” - Lawrence App Quartet
“Bassline” - Lawrence App Quartet
“Suga Bum Bum” - Windjammer
“Give Me The Night” - George Benson
“L-O-V-E” - Halie Loren
“Time After Time” - Frank Sinatra
“Happy” - Pharrell Williams
“Minute By Minute” - The Doobie Brothers
“I Just Wanna Stop” - Gino Vannelli
“Reminiscing” - Little River Band
“Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In” - The 5th Dimension
Do any of the songs on my list make you smile or make you want to dance?
Now it’s your turn! Make your own list!
What songs, singers, or bands would be on your Happiness Playlist? It could take time to generate your list, but this is one happiness exercise that is fun, easy, and will give you a happiness boost whenever you choose to listen to your Playlist.
Not a single Sting piece on the list?!? What drugs was I on when I created this list???? I will now listen to “Send Your Love” as my punishment for this oversight. :)
