Using Gratitude for a Quick Win
Thus far at Primrose Ponderings I’ve discussed choosing to focus on happiness, rewiring your brain for happiness, and an introduction to gratitude. Now that I’ve laid some groundwork, it’s time to begin taking action.
Are you ready for an assignment? Don’t worry — it’s simple and won’t take much time. Here we go!
Using a notecard or a piece of paper and your favorite writing utensil, write down and finish this sentence: “Today I am grateful for _________.“
Choose ONE thing that you are grateful for today to finish the sentence.
Keep the notecard at your desk, tape it to your refrigerator, bathroom mirror, or some other place where you can see it often during the day.
At the end of the day, read the card one last time and reflect on the gratitude that you feel when you think about what you wrote. When you’re finished, you can throw the card away or save it, as you wish.
Tomorrow repeat the same exercise but this time try to write your gratitude as early in the day as you can.
Do this exercise every morning to train your brain to automatically think about something you are grateful for.
When you begin doing this exercise, you may have difficulty thinking of something to write. If that is the case, keep it very simple. “I’m grateful to be alive” is always a good place to start if you don’t know where to start. If you’re truly stuck, subscribe to Primrose Ponderings where I’ll guide you to become more adept at finding things to be grateful for!
