Your Top Ten of 2023
Recently a friend of mine introduced me to something she does at the end of each year which I found fascinating. She makes a list of her top ten highlights from the previous year. I love this idea, especially because creating such a list is bound to increase happiness. I got her permission to “steal” her idea because I think it’s a genius way to prepare for 2024.
What are your top ten highlights of 2023?
Your top ten could be things, people, events, activities, books, experiences, or just about anything else you can think of. There are no rules to this game and no wrong answers. However, there is an opportunity to learn something to enhance our happiness journeys if we wish. (I’ll get to that in a minute.)
Make your list now. You have one week to finish it!
For some of you, this will be an easy exercise. In fact, some of you might find it difficult to stop at just ten, but if so, write down every idea that comes to you and then choose a top ten from that larger list. Feel free to keep the larger list if you like, but forcing yourself to narrow it down to ten will become useful later.
If, on the other hand, you are having difficulty thinking of ten highlights, go back to your Gratitude Journal or Gratitude Calendar1 for a reminder of what was special to you in 2023. Remember that a “highlight” need not be something big or earth shattering. It could be as simple as remembering a day when you especially enjoyed your morning coffee.
Whether this is an easy or difficult exercise for you doesn’t matter. Either way, completing it will be a step toward finding greater happiness. The key is that you must complete the exercise to obtain the benefit.
